Talking to Your Partner About Snoring

If your partner snores, you know how difficult getting a good night’s sleep can be. Not only will you wake feeling restless, but your partner may not even realize that there is a problem. In some cases, snoring can lead to marriage problems. Before snoring interrupts your relationship, have a talk with your partner.

Discussing snoring is not an easy topic. Your partner may be in denial. As you start the conversation, avoid placing blame. Explain to your partner how their snoring is affecting you. During the conversation, stress how worried you are about them. Offer to work together to resolve the issue.

Now that you have had this all important conversation, ask your partner to see their physician. Remember, snoring can be caused by a serious health condition. One of the most serious conditions is sleep apnea. With sleep apnea, the patient will temporarily stop breathing. Luckily, this can easily be treated. When your partner visits the physician, tag along. Explain to the doctor what you are hearing at night. This can help the physician make a proper diagnosis.

After getting a clear bill of health, encourage your partner to make simple lifestyle changes. This includes things like losing weight and avoiding alcohol before bedtime. Whatever you do, avoid sleeping in separate rooms. Not only will your partner feel resentment, but intimacy will be greatly reduced.

While dealing with a snoring partner can be a challenge, there is help out there. If one thing does not work, keep tying until you are both getting a good nights sleep. Find a solution that works for both of you.
